Top Qualifier Jason Stares takes the wins TCS 2 Posted On 25.10.2010 By: Author Admin
A fantastic weekend for all at WSID, surprisingly we had no rain. Saturday saw a very windy cold day for all but we were still able to have our three qualifiers. With a very stout field of ten cars Jason Stares in his 615cc 63 Chev Corvette took top qualifier with 7.697 @ 177.88 However not so good for Darryl Steven's Ford Probe which had converter issues and Gary Halpin in his Datsun Coupe which tore a slick on his guard. So both cars were on there way home.
Sunday saw only six cars remaining as John Habib in his Holden Torana didn't show up. Which was good for the rest of top sportsman as it meant they were able two have not only one more qualifier today but two. Once again Frank Fenech cut a 0.000 light.

The Top Sportsman Association (TSA) was formed in June 2009. Many group 3 racers had expressed concerns over the huge disparity in ET’s (6secs to 10.99) and the number of entries in Super Sedan. Top Sportsman was conceived and endorsed by the vast majority of group 3 racers in NSW.
The rules were discussed and democratically voted on by secret ballot by all members that joined TSA. All rules set by our governing body (ANDRA) apply and racers must be a full ANDRA member holding a UDL to vote. The end result, any sedan that runs quicker than 8.50 in any engine configuration may become a member and enter the TSA bracket. The inaugural meeting for TSA is 11th October 2009 at WSID. This combines Naturally aspirated, NOS,Turbo’s, Supercharged (self starting) and Rotaries all on a DYO .
Economic times are tough and TSA recognised that the Tracks are also being adversely affected, so to that end, all members voted to be self funded in the first year. TSA will actively canvas sponsors as a group and assist in track promotions.
This is a forward and proactive step for group 3 racers in Australia. Look forward to seeing you trackside!
